The story of Liam Nathan

We have a son!!!!

Liam Nathan Douma was born on June 4, 2013 at 6:15pm weighing a whopping 9lbs and 13oz and measuring 22 in.

We got to see him at 6:25.

Here is the story, the beginning of a wonderful story, of Liam Nathan.

I'm writing it here so I don't forget :)

Liam was due on May 28. On May 29 we got a call saying the doctor thought it would be another 3 weeks. A little shocked, we settled in for a long wait.

On Sunday, June 1st, we got a call saying that the birthmother was having contractions and that we should keep our cell phone close by, just in case.

On Tuesday morning, June 4, we got called saying that labour had started, and that he would probably be born sometime in the next day or so.  I had a date to go for coffee to some friends, so after doing some last minute running around, and cutting the grass, I went there. Mike stayed home to 'work' and man the phones. He called the cellphone at 1:30 to say that the birthmother was having contractions 6 minutes apart, and had asked that we start to make our way down.

I raced home, we packed threw things in the the truck and were off!

We got text messages updating us along the way, letting us know how far things were, and telling us to hurry up. We got to the hospital at about 5:00.

We continued to get texts giving us updates, and at 6:15 we heard
It's a boy!!!!!!

By 6:25 the nurse had come to the waiting room where we were and asked if we wanted to go and see our son.  I think we were in shock. I'm not sure what she thought of us, but I'll never forget the walk down that hall, all the years of waiting, having become months, then weeks, then days, then hours and now seconds away from what we have dreamed off.

He was laying in the nursery under the lights, and I can't even tell you what it was like to meet him for the first time. We thought he was big! and beautiful!  and just, well everything we'd ever hoped for!

We spent some time with him, touching him (I remember when I bent down to get the camera, I made Mike put his hand on him so that he would always feel loved!), talking to him, and falling insanely in love with him.

After a little while I nursed him and then Mike gave him a bottle.

We began calling our shocked families and telling them the story and the news! What fun calls to make!  :)

By about 9:30 we were given a room, a large room that was called 'almost home'.  We wheeled him down the hall to his new place and we just smiled and smiled!

The next day being Wednesday we had two sets of visitors. Mike's parents came and hung out with us for a few hours (and bought us breakfast and then big macs!  :)

First family photo :)
and then my Mom and Dad and Michelle came at night to see him and brought us supper!

We ended up having to stay in the hospital til Friday morning (his sugar levels were low at the beginning, he wasn't insterested in eating at first, and the cautious doctor wanted to keep a close eye on him.). We hung out as a family all day Thursday, bonding and loving and just smiling and smiling!

Lisa came with Connor, Dylan and Peyton on Thursday evening!

Friday morning we were discharged and we got ready to take our son home!

He slept most of the way home, we stopped to eat, and then he promptly screamed from the time we got off the exit til we were inside.

We came home to a sign and a fabulously clean house!

We've been home for over a week now, and we are loving every single minute with our little guy!  He's growing, eating well, and generally content.

We love him to pieces!  I'll post more pictures as I have time :) of the days since we've been home. We've had an outpouring of love from our family, friends and church community.

God is good!

    1. Thanks! He is perfect!

Nursing is going really well. We knew he was coming about 3 months before he was born, so I had lots of time to get ready. I am still suplementing with formula as I build up my milk supply.

I'd love to hear your adoption story! I love how God chooses children to be in families!
